Naturally a number of our projects are not on ‘green field’ sites but are to be constructed in place of existing, often dilapidated or undersize, facilities. As part of our many service offerings and particularly on our turnkey projects where 3CB can act as Principle Contractor, we are asked to undertake demolition before we rebuild the site. We are able to undertake asbestos surveys and removal together with removal of waste from site and re-crushing existing concrete footings if the project scale justifies the specific plant necessary.
3CB have an enviable reputation for refurbishment of older building either of traditional construction or steel framed buildings. Our expertise in the safe removal of old asbestos roofs and replacement with modern composite or built-up systems can bring a new lease of life to damp and leaking buildings that often have a dark interior not conducive to a good working environment. All of this can be achieved for a lower cost than a new build and typically won’t require planning consent.
3CB offer, as part of our turnkey or on an individual basis, a comprehensive national groundworks service. Typically our services consist of foundations and flooring for our steel buildings, drainage and soakaways, car parks, road ways & kerbing systems and floor painting/finishes. Naturally enough it is very important that the design of the foundations and slab are suitable for the steel building being mounted and the prevailing ground conditions and stability. Equally in high bay storage applications (and we constructed building to take racking as tall as 11 metres) the floor has to resist the punching forces of the racking legs and equally be flat enough to ensure the safety of the entire system. To do this teams construct floors designed by qualified structural engineers and use laser level systems to achieve the required standard of finish. Integration of the foundations and floor together with our steel buildings is critical if the building construction sequence is to meet specification and time frames. Potential error in groundworks undertaken by a third party could lead to dispute relating as to where the error has occurred – the building supplier or the groundworks team. Naturally our designers and construction teams work closely with all trades and can advise as necessary but by taking total ownership for the supply and construction of the foundations, floor and the steel building as one entity 3CB can provide a quality assured and integrated solution where the client has only one party to deal with. Equally 3CB’s design team can allow for any incoming or outgoing services by laying trenches , duct work, pipework, cabling etc and thereby ensure correct location within the building and missing critical foundation pads etc. Floor finishes range from tamped finishes, that are ideal externally where grip in damp or icy weather is required, right through to powerfloated finishes with an option of a polished finish and the further optional use of surface hardeners and colours that bond into the very concrete itself. This is especially useful in high traffic fork lift and equipment areas where ceramic floor may be too costly but where dust control and attractive finishes are sought. 3CB are able to install pits and recesses for the equipment is typically used within MOT test stations or garages where rolling road test facilities have to be positioned adjacent to post lifts or inspection pits. Preformed or cast in-site pit solutions are available to meet client requirements.

Thanks to the investment made in our state of the art Computer Aided Design systems and the extensive engineering experience within 3CB we have developed a capability of problem solving within the steel framed building sector, and beyond, that have yielded results in a number of areas.
We can also undertake specialist fabrication work associated with our steel building, such as ‘cat walks’, canopies, loading platforms etc
Steel building challenges that we have solved issues include:-
Clean and temperature controlled environment building
With its extensive capabilities 3CB have just completed an exciting project for a very prestigious, highly successful, international printing company at their South Wales facility.
The requirement was for an steel framed and insulated enclosure (for a very sophisticated printing press) to be constructed within the main factory. Space was limited and consequently roller door access had to be set at an angle whilst the roof had to be flat to carry the various ventilation ducts and also fit within the limited space.
The 3CB team design the solution from start to finish and the project was highly successful. The clients plans to use 3CB for other enclosures and also external factory extension work.
Noise containment buildings
Utilising specialist solutions we are able to reduce noise levels outside our steel building. This is typically relevant where there are process control noises, test house noise or very commonly air compressor noise.
To undertake the work thoroughly we need to understand noise levels at a range of frequencies such that we offer the appropriate solution. To do this we undertake noise surveys at the outset.
Dust containment enclosures
Certain environments require the installation of specialist enclosures to minimise dust levels in a particular area of a facility. We have undertaken a number of these installations and can often custom design the solution for fabrication within our own workshop prior to delivery – thereby minimising site disruption.
Clean Rooms for food processing
By lining our buildings in appropriate materials the interiors can be readily pressure washed for cleanliness. We use materials provided by such companies as Hemsec that provide the perfect solution for such environmental requirements. Naturally enough the fit out includes the correct IP (Ingress Protection) rating for electrical equipment.
A recent project designed and supplied by 3CB is this very attractive flat rooved building constructed within an existing factory to maintain a clean room for very high volume, high quality label printing. The building required a roller door on one corner to allow plant entry and general fit out. The delighted Client has recently taken delivery of a second such building from ourselves so ‘photos to follow!’
